Matthew Zimmie, MD, MSHI
Matthew J. Zimmie, M.D., MSHI, is vice president and system chief medical informatics officer at Beaumont Health, Michigan’s largest health care system, based on inpatient admissions and net patient revenue.
Dr Zimmie’s responsibilities include oversight for the evaluation, implementation, and adoption of health care technology for clinicians across the system. He also oversees the implementation, maintenance and enhancement of a standardized electronic health record across Beaumont Health. He collaborates with the information technology and quality leadership teams to develop quality data connectivity and reporting capabilities. He works closely with information technology and security leadership, promoting an uncompromised approach to protecting patient data and all other confidential information in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards.
Prior to coming to Beaumont Health, Dr. Zimmie joined Oakwood Healthcare in 2006 and assisted in the rollout of their ambulatory and inpatient electronic health records across the health system, first as the medical director of Information Technology and later as their Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer.
Dr. Zimmie is certified in clinical informatics by the American Board of Preventative Medicine. He is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the American Medical Informatics Association and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems. He is an Epic electronic health record certified physician builder.
Dr. Zimmie is a board-certified, practicing family medicine physician. He received his medical degree from Michigan State University and obtained his master’s degree in Health Informatics through the University of Illinois at Chicago.
